From ‘Disco Loadout’, the band comments: “This song is more of a comedic idea than real music. This song is fully rhythmic, so the guitar and bass parts either play all open strings at once or cut all strings at once. On top of that , all the strings were tuned to entirely random notes so it’s just complete dissonance The title comes from playing a show just before a club night starts and how quickly you have to pull everything off your stage gear.

Heriotit is Debbie Gough comments: sugar horse are a band I’ve always enjoyed seeing after playing with them for the first time in 2017! I’m very honored to be on their track ‘Disco Loadout’ from this EP and it’s fantastic to see so many other friends on the tracklist too!

Mcclusky/St Peter’s Serpent Invasionit is Damien Sayell comments: Sugar Horse are heavy metal for people who don’t watch wrestling.

Waterloo teeth is a true demonstration of sugar horserefusal to comply or stand still. A community-building and genre-hopping release, the EP sees SugarHorse let the good times roll. Recorded during the Christmas holidays at LittlePond studios, sleeping among the amps, the four-track record is the band Bristol’s excuse to work with some of the coolest musicians on the planet.

SugarHorseis the most extravagant music to date, WaterlooThe teeth disrupt ideas. The opening track and first single “Disco Loadout” are anti-sugar horse – a band previously known for their long, melodic songs, this song is instead as short and atonal as possible. In contrast to the third track, “Gutted” is the song “everything everywhere at once”, from Shellac-style noise, to Sleep-esque destiny, to Cocteau twins melody and return.

It is suitable that Waterloo teeth is a celebration of the limits of art. Humans are compelled to create, creation drowns out the madness that surrounds us and keeps us alive. Where there is liberation, there is constraint; where there is constraint, there is creativity. It is this circle of life that sugar horse flourish in – Waterloo teeth is a seductive and irresistible invitation to join the circle.

It’s not for nothing that sugar horse became known as a nonconformist group. Their previous EPs Druj and Drugs were acclaimed amalgams of doom, hardcore, stoner and punk, followed by an acclaimed debut album The Live Long After.

A band that was supposed to tour with black peaks before the inevitable Covid disruption, and who rotated with Vennart and played ArcTangent, sugar horse have received accolades from Upset Magazine, Metal Hammer, Revolver, and Kerrang!, among others.

Formed in 2015 as a trio in an apartment in Bristol, sugar horse came into full swing in 2019 with the addition of Jake Healy on baritone guitar and keyboards. Seeking to break with emerging trends in their scene, the band’s emphasis on simplicity and weight of tempo belies an impressive sense of self-awareness and maturity.

In their own words:I think the best art is formed when its creators impose rigid rules on themselves. Mondrian had geometry, Mark E Smith had his hatred for cigarette taxation and we have complete disregard for urgency.
