Unpopular opinion: A television series or a film is only as good as its soundtrack.

The following comes from TechWarn, a company DMN is proud to partner with.

Music, after all, can do a lot to elevate a particular scene for viewers, so it makes perfect sense that a composer’s job on a show is just as important as the writers and producers who craft the script. Think about it, what’s a horror movie without creepy, creepy music?

Without further ado, we take a look at some of the different TV series with the best soundtracks.

1. Stranger Things

Set in a small suburban Indiana town, Stranger Things is definitely a show for 80s fans. The costumes, setting, and haircuts all create a sense of nostalgia for viewers. Besides being one of the most-watched shows on Netflix in 2022, the series has an ace soundtrack. Expect tunes from Duran Duran, The Police and Bon Jovi.

2.Atlanta

This list wouldn’t make sense without Atlanta. Rapper Childish Gambino created the series about the life of a hip-hop artist and his cousin. If you’re a fan of hip-hop and funk, this one’s for you.

3. A talkative girl

Many artists, including Peter Bjorn and John, have Gossip Girl to thank for their meteoric rise to fame. Millennials who watched this series about the life of New York’s elite will remember how GG shaped their viewing habits as teenagers.

4. Big Little Lies

Let’s be honest, the opening song for this series is already great, so it makes perfect sense that the other songs in the series are also impressive. Elvis, Otis Redding, Frank Ocean and Sade… should we continue?

5. Sex education

Fan of 80s British music? Sex education will be your jam. Although it’s not actually set in the 80s, the outfits and setting make viewers reminisce. Velvet Underground, Fleetwood Mac and T.Rex appear on the soundtrack.

6. Theft of money

What’s a worldwide television phenomenon without good music? Even if you are not a fan of the series, you know the famous song by Bella Ciao. While the soundtrack includes classic Spanish hits, Arcade Fire, The Prodigy and Van Morrison also appear.

7. Suits

A series like Suits definitely needs a solid soundtrack, and that’s exactly what the composers do. Seriously, Etta James, Jimi Hendrix and Nina Simone? The soundtrack for the TV series is more like a roll call from the Grammy Hall of Fame.

8. Empire

Despite the issues the show had with some cast members, it was a hit and it’s hard not to listen to any of its tracks. After all, the show was about a very musical family and their empire. The first season of the series was particularly impressive.

9. Diary of a Vampire

Like Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, too, was responsible for teenagers’ musical choices in the past. Some of our favorites on the soundtrack include songs from The Prodigy, MGMT and The Fray.

10. This Is Us

Need a soundtrack for just about any life event? Consider listening to This Is Us. Really, if there’s one other thing the show has done well besides its storyline, it’s selecting songs that fit pretty much any what theme. From the Rolling Stones to Lizzo, it’s all there.

Good listening !

Ashley Weckesser wants to get inside your brain.

Content of the article

The Edmonton-based composer, whose soundscapes have been heard at Convocation Hall at the University of Alberta and at the Toronto Multicultural Film Festival, wants her works to evoke emotion and passion in the listener.

His album, Drift, is a collection of seven titles intended to deepen the transcendental aspect of listening. Weckesser’s music flows seamlessly, colored by soothing rising and falling synths, swelling piano chords and wordless vocals.

Drift’s tracks are categorized into themes like Feel, Halcyon, Memory, but it’s equally engaging to listen and feel the kind of emotions the music is meant to evoke without being prompted by the title.

We apologize, but this video failed to load.

“My goal for this album was to create music that takes the mind of the listener into a part of their subconscious,” said Weckesser, who composed Drift primarily on Logic Pro X, a recording program. “I hope that when people listen to these tracks in their entirety, they come away feeling refreshed and like they’ve had a moment to stand still in their normally busy lives.”

Weckesser says she recorded the tracks for the album by mixing musical textures and techniques from cinematic music and meditation music.

On Memory, you can hear influences from the film’s soundtrack as nostalgic ukulele strings are plucked while female voices whisper, conjuring up memories of movie scenes seen or imagined. Most of Drift follows the same low-key pattern; pleasant enough to set to music a meditation session or a meal in a vegetarian restaurant without requiring your full attention.

Weckesser aims to compose music for films, plays and video games, and you can get a taste of his talent for fusing sound with visuals with a number of YouTube films released in collaboration. with Drift on November 18.

Throughout my career, I felt that African music and traditions had yet to be fully explored, and that blending African roots with existing genres could be a great starting point for music production. experimental.

There’s nothing quite like the big bass thrill of a music system. This track roundup celebrates my love for low frequencies with a selection of must-have tracks that can deliver tons of rich, happy bass when played on a capable music system.

Without good bass, the sound coming from a speaker is just background noise.

I’m not talking about one-note bass, or bass so powerful it muddyes every other frequency strand in the music mix and is tiring to listen to for long periods of time. I’m talking about a musical bass that brings a sense of scale and melody to everything I hear.

“If you’re an outsider…and you say it’s mountain music, because you don’t know any better, that’s almost like a racist remark,” she observed. “If we’re hillbillies, we’re proud of it. But you don’t have the right to say that if you don’t really know what you’re talking about.

Singer-songwriter Stephen Wilson Jr., who grew up in Seymour, Indiana, has enough credibility to use the word correctly. Or, to be more precise, enough credibility to split the word correctly. His song “billy,” released Sept. 16, centers on a hook that revels in his unsophisticated lifestyle choices: “You can call me billy, but the hills come with me.”

“The way hillbillies are generalized in mainstream media, they kind of lack intelligence, or they don’t think progressively,” Wilson says. “All the hillbillies I grew up with are actually very smart people; they just kind of chose a real simple life – and I kind of wanted to show the simplicity of that life without really taking sides.

But it’s a performance with its own sound: buzzing undercurrent, quasi-tribal drumming and fiery, futuristic lap steel with a touch of danger. The sound is, suggests Wilson, “Death Cab for country”.

Wilson developed “billy” in an inspirational half-hour in his Nashville kitchen on Nov. 29, 2021, the Monday after Thanksgiving. He had spent the holidays in Indiana, hanging out with his family and reconnecting with his roots. “I took a quick dip in the Hillbilly Pool when I got home,” he says. “Maybe writing that song took it away from me.”

The “You can call me billy” hook may have been a reaction to his brief stay in Indiana – he’s not quite sure how it happened – but he first developed the lyrics, beginning with a chorus that mixes subversive imagery (“Half-mud blood”), hillbilly traits (“I have a heavy Southern drawl”), insane acting (“Cannonball in the paddling pool “) and a little kindness (“Kind as the day is long”).

“It’s more of an observation of a way of life and all that goes with it,” Wilson says. “It felt empowering when I saw it. It kind of made you feel tough, but not with all the typical tough guy shit.

The first verse embraced the outward aspects of this lifestyle, akin to Hank Williams Jr.’s “A Country Boy Can Survive” with its references to skinning bucks and cleaning fish. The final verse—perhaps due to its post-Thanksgiving origins—served collard greens, cornbread, and “pig on the griddle.” Even a description of the conversation, “slow-spoken and deep-fried,” took on a foodie’s perspective.

When the words came to sonic life, Wilson created verse melodies with long held notes at the end of lines, strung over a static, tonic E chord. Juxtaposed against this frame, the chorus feels faster, with faster phrasing and a chord structure that launches into rare chromatic movement, rising a half-step into a passing chord that provides an energetic lift.

With its unique chorus, catchy melody and mysterious patchwork of imagery, “billy” caught the ear of Wilson’s wife, singer-songwriter Leigh Nash, formerly of the band Sixpence None the Richer. When they attended a Christmas party the following month, the musicians started sharing songs and Nash suggested they do “billy”. Host Caylee Hammack and Ashley McBryde responded enthusiastically, and Wilson thought he should tape it.

He first worked with his road band, with drummer Julian Dorio hitting jerky beats on the snare drum to carry much of the energy. Bassist Jon Murray anchored the chords under Wilson’s active acoustic guitar, and his brother, Scotty Murray, came up with a sneering lap steel part that enhances the song’s edgy quality.

“He plays it on a pedalboard, like a Jonny Greenwood meets Duane Allman, or Radiohead meets Paul Franklin,” Wilson suggests. “He’s a really good steel player, but he also adds a lot of cool, surreal effects.”

The band played “billy” several times at a spring gig with The Cadillac Three, then added it to the set on a later tour with Brothers Osborne. When producer Ben West heard “billy”, he wanted to skip other material already in progress to focus on the new song. Wilson’s acoustic guitar part and scratch vocals provided the background recording, and the other musicians worked around this at Farmland, a recording studio near Lipscomb University in Nashville.

“It’s a very modest studio, and you could walk past it and never know,” West says. “Jonny and Scotty, the brothers who play in his band, both live there. It’s really perfect. They stumble out of bed, put down their instruments, plug in and start recording.

They had already refined the arrangement so much that West’s main goal was to capture the best iteration of their performances. “When we started recording it, the drum parts were probably at 99%,” West says. “So my job at this point is just to make sure nobody overshadows the main character of the song, which is Stephen’s lyrics and his gut-string guitars. Everyone supports this character, but since they’re such big personalities, Julian could be the star of the show if you’re not careful, or Scotty on the pedal steel.

During live performances, the band developed a Lumineers-style “hey” in the chorus; West and Wilson recreated it in the studio, taking inspiration less from “Ho Hey” and more from “Don’t Come Around Here No More” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

“We just did like a fake gang-vocal thing with a little slap on it,” Wilson says. “Really, it’s more the Tom Petty approach of a ‘hey’.”

The self-produced “billy” is projected as one track among 22 possibilities for an album that is currently being purchased in Nashville. Meanwhile, it has become a highlight of Wilson’s live set, speaking directly to fans who share his underdog disposition.

“When I started playing it, I could see these mountain kids start singing it — like, they got hooked on it really quickly,” Wilson says. “And that means something to people, even if they don’t know if they can exactly put their finger on it.”

Darth Maul Shadow Hunter

Then one of his Neimoidian contacts disappears, and Sidious doesn’t need his Force-honed instincts to suspect treachery. He orders his apprentice, Darth Maul, to hunt down the traitor.

But it’s too late. The secret has already passed through the hands of information broker Lorn Pavan, which puts it at the very top of Darth Maul’s blacklist. Then, in the labyrinthine alleys and sewers of Coruscant, capital of the Republic, Lorn crosses paths with Darsha Assant, a Padawan Jedi on a mission to earn her title of Knight.

Now the future of the Republic depends on Darsha and Lorn. But how can an inexperienced Jedi and an ordinary man, unfamiliar with the mighty ways of the Force, hope to triumph over one of the deadliest killers in the galaxy?

Set just before the events of The Phantom MenaceDarth Maul: Shadow Hunter was a highly anticipated book when it was released on January 30, 2001. With Episode 2 coming at just the right time and Maul’s character already firmly entrenched in the pantheon of greats. star wars characters, any details of his past were eagerly welcomed, and the story at hand – Maul sent on a mission to resolve issues regarding the identity of the Sith by means of a holocron sold to an information broker by a Neimiodian official – is as relevant today as it was then, especially in light of the recent episode of Tales of the Jedi’The Sith Lord‘ and the era of Episode 1 and the blockade of Naboo, also prescient given the blockade of Ghorman mentioned in Andor.

It should be noted that in 2001 Darth Maul had only been – and at the time probably still would be – voiced by Peter Serafinowicz, but as the story shows the arrival of The Clone Wars in 2008 and later Maul himself in season four in 2012 saw Sam Witwer take on the role, something he would continue to do for Star Wars: Rebels where he attempted the death of the Dathomirian Zabrak by the hand of Obi-Wan Kenobi and backed up the timeline again in 2018 Solo: A Star Wars Story where he led the crime syndicate Crimson Dawn. Therefore, the opportunity to have Witwer record the full audio version of Michael Reeves’ novel (after the 2007 abridged version read by Michael Cumpsty) was too good an opportunity to pass up, and while never wanting to divert the work from the stellar team that typically make these audiobooks, it gives us a unique opportunity to hear the character’s on-screen voice dive deep into the mind and deliver something truly special.

To be placed before the events of Phantom, we know the result. Despite numerous attempts to escape the powerful Sith apprentice, Maul eventually tracks down all of his careers and ends them, most poignantly at the end of the book when he finds information broker Lorn Pavan and in action as close to mercy as you find of any Sith, grants him a quick kill. The book is fast-paced, action-packed, adds an extra dimension to the relationship between Maul and Sidious while laying the groundwork for other authors to continue in book and comic form (Darth Plagueis and the Race Numbers Dark Horse return to that nicely) and even removed from Canon as a book removed from Legends status reinforces why the decision to bring Maul back (despite devolving his upper and lower halves) was a good one. Well worth a read and a listen.

United Plugins and SoundDevice Digital have launched MasterMind, a new all-in-one mastering plugin designed for a quick and easy workflow. Is MasterMind your one stop shop for quick and easy mastering?

SoundDevice Digital MasterMind

Mastering is an art that normally requires a studio full of high-end equipment and a skilled engineer with trained ears who know how to make it work. Unfortunately, it’s not always in the budget. For those times when you just want to quickly brush up your tracks and make them sound better and louder in a few simple steps, all-in-one mastering plugins like the new Brain by SoundDevice Digital and United Plugins are a handy solution.

The plugin is built around the To optimise function, essentially a one-button mastering tool. SounDevice Digital says they researched a lot of mastered material to create an algorithm that enhances sound from an audio and psychoacoustic perspective. Like all one-button algorithms, it will adapt to your hardware or not, but if it does, it’s certainly handy.

Matching a track to the sound of a reference track is a technique many of us like to use when mastering, and it’s the second main element of MasterMind. The plugin Match analyzes your material and reference track, then proceeds to create a custom EQ curve. You can adjust the amount of this automatic EQ to apply using the Match button.

Manual settings

That said, MasterMind also has a manual EQ section to refine the high and low frequencies. High and low shelving bands allow up to 16 dB of cut or boost. The low shelf is adjustable from 20 to 150 Hz, while the high shelf is from 3 to 16 kHz. Additionally, the EQ section offers a equalizer tube button that allows you to add the desired amount of tube saturation.

Next comes a Limiter section with the familiar Gain, Threshold and Out Ceiling controls, as well as a Saturation button. SoundDevice Digital claims that the limiter makes soundtracks both louder and smoother.

Additional features include a Stereo width button for quick adjustments to the stereo image and a visual analyzer. MasterMind provides an interesting mix of one-button “magic” and additional controls for manual adjustment. If the algorithms sound as good as SoundDevice Digital claims, it sounds like a great way to refresh your tracks quickly and easily, especially at the low introductory price.

Price and compatibility

SoundDevice Digital MasterMind is now available from United Plugins for an introductory price of 29 €. This is 78% off regular price, which will be €129. A 15-day trial version is available.

The plugin works on macOS 10.10 or higher and Windows 8 or 10. It is available in VST, VST3, AU and AAX sizes.

by Taylor Swift Midnights was billed as the first truly collaborative album she made with producer Jack Antonoff, but the LP and expansion 3am The release features many other names, old and new in the Swift realm. One of them is Mark Anthony Spears, aka Sounwave, who collaborated on three tracks with Swift and Antonoff.

Sounwave cut his teeth as a key member of Top Dawg Entertainment, where he’s worked with Kendrick Lamar and other TDE heavyweights since 2011. He won a Grammy for “Alright” in 2015 and landed a nomination at the Oscars for Black Panther“All Stars”.

He’s since teamed up with other big names in pop and rap, like Beyoncé, FKA Twigs, and Chloe x Halle. He eventually struck up a friendship with Antonoff, with whom he and fellow producer/songwriter Sam Dew formed the trio Red Hearse. Antonoff ended up pulling Soundwave into the Lover sessions, and they worked together on the Britpop-inspired track “London Boy.”

“Me and Jack keep each other informed of any project we’re working on,” Spears said. rolling stone. “We usually take at least a week a year just to create with no goal in mind. That’s how Red Hearse was created.

Before Antonoff started working on Swift’s tenth album, he was preparing material with Spears, Dew and Zoë Kravitz. (Kravitz revealed earlier this year that she is currently working on her first solo album with Antonoff). During a brainstorming session, the quartet composed a track that would become “Lavender Haze”.

“It wasn’t specifically meant for anything,” he recalls. “That one was me going through sounds for 15 minutes and ended up hitting a button by accident. Jack’s eyes lit up and thought, ‘What was that?’ It happened to be this little little loop that my guy Jahaan [Sweet, fellow TDE producer] sent me some time ago.

Spears tweaked the loop and they added a bunch of effects to make it sound like it does now. “Sam came in with the melodies. Zoë is actually a creative genius. She’s not just a phenomenal actress. His ability to create different tones and find different melodies is next level.

A few months later, Antonoff reached out to Spears, Dew and Kravitz to see if he could pitch the song to Swift, who immediately loved it. She wrote lyrics inspired by a Mad Men scene, numerous tabloid rumors, and online gossip about his relationship status and “1950s expectations.”

“When Jack first brought us into our ears, all of our mouths dropped. She took him to a whole new world and made him her own. She created different pockets that we didn’t hear .

“Glitch”, one of the bonus songs of the Midnight (3am) edition, was born from the same studio session as “Lavender Haze”. The bubbly “Karma” came later, when Antonoff reached out to Spears for any other ideas he might have to contribute to the album and his synth-pop vision.

“‘Karma’ was just a last-minute Ave Maria,” Spears says. “I remembered that I was working with my guy Keanu [Beats] and had something that was too perfect not to send to him. As soon as I sent it, Jack immediately said ‘This is the one’. I play it for Taylor now. We are going there. The next day I heard the final product with his voice on it.

While it’s still too early to tell which songs will be the album’s smash hits, it’s clear that “Karma” has struck a chord on TikTok, nearly 20,000 videos for the official soundtrack with just days to go. asset.

“Such a fun song! It rings instantly and you just feel joy inside. And the messaging is so cool,” Spears says.

Spears only heard a few other songs from the LP before its official release; Antonoff had sent a sample of what he and Swift had been up to so Spears would have an idea of the sound they were going for when he went to crank out the beats after the lyrical and vocal additions. He was impressed with the sound, the concept and the surprise drop of seven additional tracks. He even has favorites already.

“Right now I’m going back and forth between ‘Anti-Hero’ and ‘Glitch.’ Not to honk, but I love the weirdness of “Glitch”. The venting part is everything it was meant to be. It’s so amazing to me.

“Kala Chashma” from “Baar Baar Dekho”, sung by Badshah and Neha Kakkar, is one of the energetic songs. Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra starred in the famous song. Make your party livelier by keeping your chashmas ready to dance to this song.

2. Bijlee Bijlee

Get ready to dance to Harrdy Sandhu’s song “Biljee Bijlee” during Diwali.

The video for the song is the icing on the cake, as Harrdy and Shweta Tiwari’s daughter, Palak Tiwari, danced her heart out to the lyrics.

3. Punjabban

How can we forget the hit dance number “The Punjaabban” by Anil Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Neetu Kapoor, Maniesh Paul and Varun Dhawan to add to the Diwali playlist. The movie soundtrack ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’ is suitable for any occasion.

4. Gallan Goodian

“Gallan Goodiyan” is one of those tracks that can inspire even non-dancers to join you on the dance floor. This fam-jam song from the film “Dil Dhadakne Do” by Zoya Akhtar, performed by Farhan Akhtar, Manish J. Tipu, Shankar Mahadevan, Sukhwinder Singh and Yashita Yashpal Sharma, will help you channel your inner Bhangra skills.

5. London Thumakda

Kangana Ranaut’s offbeat hook in the song “London Thumakda” from “Queen” made the track a huge hit. Magnificent sung by Labh Janjua, Sonu Kakkar and Neha Kakkar. And this composition by Amit Trivedi continues to be everyone’s favorite.

6. Ishq Tera Tadpave

No celebration is complete without Sukhbir’s “Ishq Tera Tadpave” and be ready to say “Oh ho ho” when DJ plays this track at your Diwali party. The classic 1990s song was even featured in the late Irrfan Khan’s film “Hindi Medium.”
