Irvine Musicians Join NYBBS Marching Band Summer Camp

Two young musicians from Irvine took part in Scotland’s largest youth brass band school last week.

Sisters Charlie and Evie Boax, who play with Irvine & Dreghorn Brass, joined the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) residential summer course at Strathallan School in Forgandenny from Sunday 31 July to Saturday 6 August .

With players from across Scotland aged between 9 and 22, the school is divided into three age groups and allows youngsters to take part in training sessions, masterclasses and full group rehearsals.

Carrie Boax, Course Coordinator and President of the Scottish Brass Bands Association, said: “It is a real honor and privilege to know that at the end of the week our Music Directors, Tutors and Pastoral Staff will have done a little but positive difference in the musical journey of every young person who attends our summer school and has helped them create memories and friendships that I know will last a lifetime.

Attendees were also able to take part in outdoor activities such as swimming, rounders, scavenger hunts, movie nights, football, a talent show and a silent disco.

At the end of the course, the young musicians were able to share their skills by performing in a concert at the Albert Halls in Stirling.

The course receives funding from Creative Scotland through its Youth Music Initiative.
