The MASS Band celebrates its tenth anniversary with a special concert

The MASS Band will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a big party involving DJ’s and special guests.

although in fact 12 years together, the band’s original 10th anniversary concert Sligo was canceled on the day of the first round of restrictions which began on March 14, 2020.

Playing together since the early days of the infamous open music jam on a Sunday at the McGarrigles pub, O’Connell st, Sligo, Sunday MASS started as a musicians’ social club in 2010, where musicians and patrons enjoyed an evening improvisation of musical chaos with musical guests of all musical genres and from all walks of life.

From there, the group developed into a lively concert outfit specializing in “funky” or “alternative” weddings, where couples did not want the typical “waistband” wedding band.

This 6-piece band plays their own versions of funk, soul, 80s and 90s dance classics, and dancers from all over the country fill the dance floors with their sound.

After original MASS Band singer Lisa moved on to new musical adventures last year, the band are taking advantage of this special gig to introduce their fabulous new singer, Sligo-born soul singer Grainne McCarthy.

Alison Reynolds joined the band as saxophonist 3 years ago, and along with Donal Gunne (guitar), Peter Crann (percussion), Tony Travers (drums) and Jaimie Carswell (bass), they complete this 6 piece of fun.

The band decided to use the local Yeats venue in Drumcliff as their party venue, mainly due to the management’s enthusiastic ambitions to add the venue to the Irish live music circuit. A large stage, sound and lighting will make it a joy to play. Drumcliff is surprisingly just a 7 minute taxi ride from Sligo town.

As the first gig in Sligo for over 3 years, they ask guests to ‘dress to impress’ and encourage party and festival style.

A special late license is secured for this event which takes place on March 26 at Yeats’ local, Rathcormac.

Backing is by Sligo soul duo ‘La Gracia’, and Dj’s Cool C. and Dolittle will end the night with funk, indie, dance and hip hop grooves.

Let those disco shoes shine!
