UW Marching Band to hold spring concert after two-year hiatus The Badger Herald
The University of Wisconsin Marching Band announcement they will have their spring concert in April for the first time in two years.
The concert will feature traditional songs as well as new halftime charts including “Bohemian Wait for It,” “Country Classics” and “The Music of Panic at the Disco,” according to the UW Marching Band. website.
After a year of rehearsals last year on Zoom and in small groups, sports group manager Corey Pompey said the group was able to schedule its first large group practice last March since the spring 2020 lockdown. After giving serenading Badger fans throughout the fall football season, the spring gig shows that the band’s traditional performance schedule has finally come full circle.

“It was a thrill and reminded us all how rewarding it is to be together as musicians and friends,” Pompey said in an email to the Badger Herald.
Sophomore trombonist Daniel Meyer said it will be his first in-person spring concert, which has grown in popularity as an iconic marching band tradition in previous pre-pandemic years.
Meyer said the songs they perform at the spring concert are meant to resonate with the audience. For Meyer, it’s important that the band can interact with the crowd and perform in person.
“This year has been so different,” Meyer said. “So much better, so much cooler.”
First-year trumpet player Clara Leszcynski said it was a really cool experience to be part of such an important group as the UW Marching Band. Leszcynski always watched the band’s concerts growing up and feels honored to play with them as a student.
“[The band] becomes the soundtrack to people’s college memories,” Leszcynski said.

The Spring 2022 concert will take place at the Kohl Center on April 22-23. Tickets can be purchased from the linked band’s website here.
Pompey said the band and staff were extremely excited for the gig.
“The UW Varsity Band Spring Concert is one of the great traditions on this campus and we’re thrilled to bring it back,” Pompey said.
